Gyros!
Here's a fairly easy way to get that great Greek / Lebanese Gyro flavor without having to buy lamb or having one of those upright spinning broilers.
[edit] Ingredients
1lb of ground beef or turkey
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon onion power OR 1/2 onion (yellow, white or purple) diced
1 tablespoon garlic powder OR 3 cloves of garlic diced
1 tablespoon oregano (fresh works great if you can get it)
1 egg
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
Flatbread (pita bread works but most prefer flatbread)
Feta or Goat Cheese
Diced Tomatoes (Romas work well)
Finely chopped lettuce (optional, romaine works well)
Taziki Sauce - this is plain yogurt or sour cream, finely chopped cucumber, a little salt, pepper, mint, and lemon juice
Sumac (very hard to find and optional, you can order it online at places like shamra.com)
[edit] Instructions
Combine the meat, salt, pepper, onion, garlic, oregano, egg and olive oil in a bowl.
The mixture should be very soft so you'll have to use a spoon, I would not recommend using your hands.
Heat a preferably black iron skillet with a nice layer of olive oil covering the bottom. I suggest leaving the burner at about 75%, which should not be high enough to burn the olive oil.
Scoop out enough mixture at a time to make small patties 1-2 inches in diameter. Fry on each side until browned, usually about 2-3 minutes per side.
Prepare a plate or tray with paper towels to absorb the excess oil when you remove the patties.
Serve on flatbread and add the rest of the ingredients as desired.

This is a great thing to cook when you have guests over, most people love it. You can also buy things like hummus and kalamata olives to serve on the side. A nice greek salad works well with this.
Enjoy all the sex you get from this fine recipe.
