Wait a month for the new cheap video cards that are > 8800gt.
You should also make sure your mobo is good for upgrades.

i live in europe so i doubt they will come out here too in a month...
anyway what i was mainly wondering is how good is that processor? is it good for games? should i go for that quad or dual? should i go intel or amd?
Get whatever cpu you like, and a motherboard that will let you upgrade to quad when prices drop
Oh crap I just got a 8800GT overclocked video card ($200) and soon I can get a 9600 for the same price? Apparently buying computer hardware in Canada is expensive. The 9XXX series cards I saw in the store were $400. The 8800 still plays Conan on High settings with great framerate (as long as no shadows are turned on).
Can someone smart explain this to me? Should I return my 8800 (overclocked)and wait for a 9600 to come on low price, or do I actually have the better card right now? The performance from my computer playing AoC is really quite fantastic now that I have all of the settings tweaked.
Astute observers will no doubt point out that the GeForce 9600 GT is much cheaper than the 8800 GT and almost as fast in today's games, and they'd be (mostly) right. However, the 9600 GT has only 64 shader processors to the 8800 GT's 112, a disadvantage that could turn out to be a major hindrance with future titles. We don't feel like cutting corners for this system, but if you think the 9600 GT is good enough for your needs, see our alternatives list on the next page.
thats my exact computer(mine has 2gb ram) that can run every game but crysis on max (crysis i turn a few things down). the q6600 is nice but honestly for now go with a better performing dual core. no games are written for quads yet and when they are there will be better performing quads for less moolah.
techreport has lots of discussions comparing processors.
trelin: from what i've read the 8800gt is considered the better of the two. it's like 40 bucks more but will scale with newer games better while the 9600 probably gets similar performance NOW but in a year or so will fall behind fast.
