EQ2 PvP guild details (including how to play without paying for EQ2)

    Update:
Supposedly Nagafen is going to be the US non-SE PvP server. If there are two US non-SE servers, go to the one that is first alphabetically (the server list updates based on population so you can't go by that).

Firstly, if you want to join us on the PvP server for the first month, and do not own EQ2 and don't want to pay for anything, go here: http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/eq2/

The first 30 days are free and you don't even need to buy the box. I would download it today so you are up and ready for tuesday night.

Here is the Q&A on the guild:

Q: What side will we be playing?
A: In the beta, Freeport was the heavily favoured side. They outnumbered the Qeynos characters about 70% to 30%. We will be going Qeynos simply because it looks like it will be the lesser played side.

Q: I thought we were betraying anyways?
A: They have broken betrayal on the PvP server and have said it won't be going live until another patch, so it looks like we wouldn't be able to betray in the first 30 days anyways (although the patch will allow betraying at any level).

Q: I have no clue what I'm doing. What class should I make, etc?
A: In general, most of the classes seem fairly balanced. Make whatever sounds fun, and don't worry, we are all noobs at this point.

Q: Who will lead us, what rules will we follow?
A: I'll lead us for the first month, after that we have to see if we even want to stick around past the free 30 days. If so, I would most likely give it to the most eligable flower at that point. Same rules we always follow, have as much fun as humanly possible, exploiting everything humanly possible, while making every other human impossibly angry.

    Edit:
!@#!@%! Can't believe they closed the promotion. What a bunch of morons, why leave it open the entire week before the server opens, then close it two days before? =(

This weekend there was an XP bonus, but I didn't notice it myself. Regardless of the bonus though you do level way faster than you used to.

For whatever reason my old EQ2 account is letting me log in even though it's not active. Because of that I can play that one and someone else can have my free 30 day account if they want it (smarshnbarsh that means you, PM me). Glad you guys are going Qeynos, means I can play a swashbuckler. Badass chain-knockdown ambush on those guys.

I really like qeynos better. I played it blue so I feel more comfortable anyway. That said:

kiss all though, this'll be the first PvP server I've ever started from the beginning, and with FoH! (I know I'm a gay fagot, I love you guys, especially your rectums!) I think I'll play an enchanter/illusionist. It's the class I missed in WoW. I may do up a warlock instead, though, as it's easier. (Excuse my spelling)

I'm actually thinking this is going to be a shitload of fun. We don't have to worry about PvE classes, or "raiding" or even grouping. The 1-30 PvE game is so rediculously easy that if you put any 6 classes together you can rip through most content.

So if we don't have any "tanks" or real "healers" big deal. Sure, it might matter if we were planning to do anything except gank the hell out of everyone, but it doesn't =)

For Qeynos the classes we can play are: (I think)
    Wizard
    Warlock
    Fury
    Warden
    Templar
    Gaurdian
    Berserker
    Swashbuckler
    Ranger
    Troubadour
    Dirge
    Monk
    Mystic
    Paladin
    Illusionist
    Conjurer

All of them are pretty decent. If you like healing, Furies and Wardens both have good offensive skills. The Mystic will probably be very powerful in groups, as the one thing preventing them from chaining Wards (like huge EQ1 runes) in PvE groups is that they cause big aggro, and obviously aggro is irrelevent in PvP.

Basically any class looks to be powerful. I might play a monk as I've never played one before, but really, all of the classes are fun. I hear that Rangers and Illusionists are really good in group combat (apparently spellshield stops everything, even dots). Furies get a crazy nuke at 24 (does 750 if you chose it as your M2), and they have plenty of heals as well.

It's hard to pick because so many classes are going to be great in PvP if played right. About the only two that look like semi-duds are the Gaurdian and the Templar.

I do indeed have a key I snagged while it was still there.

In my playtesting time this is what I have observed.

Rangers work alot like DND thieves in that they do a TON of damage when the gusy is either a) being sneak attacked or b) in melee with another guy.

You have positional stuff, flanking, sneaks, etc but your base damage is kinda poopy. HOWEVER you do get a sidestab that makes you go stealth in combat which lets you then drop another 2000hp bomb.

Necro wasnt as much frontload but did consistently good dmg and the heals were very nice as were the mass spam pets for pvp as people really didnt handle them right in big gangbangs.. that guy was just pretty much dead :P

Rogue types are pretty fast unlike old games where ogad no sow your screwed.

Power/mana/whatever seems to be like you have 5x as much as other games but when its finally out youll wait a while to get it back.

The new servers go up on Tuesday right? The 21st?

  13. #13
I would seriously suggest a melee centric group of bards/shaman type/rangers and dps/tank style such as either the monk or the brigand/etc style. We need as many people who can operate on the move as possible imoimoimo. Pet classes also pwn for this as the pets do a lot of damage, think level 50 necro pets in pvp before they nerfed pet damage.

Yeah, the new servers go up on the 21st, but I wouldn't expect it to be playable until the 22nd. I might take this wednesday off from work, just to play on the PvP server =)

    OK UPDATE FROM THE FRONT

I have created my characters and saved them so that when the server opens I am ready to go! Heykid and I will be playing a monk and a dirge, not sure which one of us will play the classes. I'll probably end up playing the dirge looks like.

Pictures of the awesome gnomes ~

haha matrix glasses in a fantasy game.

I read that wizard and warlock combo has great potential--true or false?

Outdoor zones are large but I would say comparable to WoW in terms of travel time and things to do, indoor zones are smaller than WoW instances. Some indoor zones are fully instanced (i.e. one group per), most will likely not be. The world itself is, overall, much smaller than WoW.

No, they have not implemented it yet and have given it a "maybe in the future".

I've decided on playing an enchanter/illusionist. I don't really care if I play a class that is good at PvP, I just want to play a class I like. I'm not sure if I'll power through levels either. It depends on how much fun it is.

We will be on the non-SE US server. Will probably be like old SZ days where just about anyone can invite into the guild, so just send one of us a tell and we will tag you.

I just need to figure out how you create a guild in EQ2.

unless its changed you need like 7 people and some money i think. In Qeynos its in the harbor place, by the enterance to north or south qeynos i think. Its the same guy you get guild missions/quests or whatever from

Yeah, it's a building called "The Coldwind Crier" right infront of the exit to South Qeynos. You'll know when you're in the right place because an extremely flamboyant NPC will say "Hello fellow citizen!" and do a wave like Queen Elizabeth.

Takes 7 people and I believe 60 or 70 silver. Between the 7 players they should have that amount, assuming they did the quests in the Queen's Colony island.

I'm planning on getting to level 8 and maxing out my harvesting skills before leaving the island, it would be a good idea for others to get their harvesting to atleast 40 skill before leaving. There's tons of resources so you can max them all pretty fast... harder to do off the island.

Alright. Let's get together tonight and form the guild then (assuming the servers are stable).

Might be a good idea to post our character names, and join the teamspeak channel too. I'll be playing as Rancar, so just send me a tell for details.

If creating channels is the same as EQ1, I'll create news:news, so just join that and it should be an unofficial guild chat until we finish creating it.

    See you guys online!

I'll be on as Gusy of course. I'm playing a circa-1980s, stunningly sheik, African-American, which will be my illusionist. You can't miss me. I've also got an ugly little demon with blond pigtails named Ssssssssssss (or whatever a GM decides to change that to), likely a pure-healer. I'm Eastern Time. I plan to bang on this server until I get through tonight. I think we're Naggy by the way, not sure.

That's just the tutorial island. Don't know where you'd find the full version as it's 9CD's worth of files.

Ill be playing as Rynk, or if thats taken, Rink, the Dwarf berserker (or paladin later on i dunno) I played a zerker to lvl 6 last night, was pretty fun. Would think he would be good in pvp. Btw, the US PvP server is called Nagafen. When will it be up? there are no eq2 servers up right now, I checked a few mins ago... zomgiwannaplayitsobadk

Oh and for those of you who dont have the full version but got a trial, DL the attachment I posted. It is the eq2 patcher, which will download everything you tell it to at a pretty fast rate. Just make your account using the trial key you got from the fileplanet website, and you should be good to go.

Yeah I played eq2 a while on a blue server (2 times actually; when it launched and the 2nd time i quit WoW) and it was pretty fun i have to admit. The graphics are pretty nice I think, and i really really enjoy having the feeling of the whole "omg id get owned by lady vox keke" thing, because it was so lost in EQ somewhere in the 25th expansion.

The only thing i wish different is that less of norrath was blown to shit, because I'd really love to go to Karana and other places with the new graphics.
