Why do you live where you do?

I'm sure career, family and where you were born will be popular answers, but as a young adult with no particular career whos family is all moved away I'm wondering what I should be looking for in where to live. Right now the only thing keeping me in florida is my girlfriends cosmetology license (# of training hours and such) but I wonder if she got more hours where would we go and why? I just recently visited up from florida to kentucky and I must say the further north I went the happier I was. I want to move from florida because it sucks balls. Weather sucks and the people/governing body just arent that great. The wildlife and parks are pretty cool but nothing compared to what I visited in georgia/tennessee/kentucky.

I guess I'd like to know about somewhere that has pretty flora/fauna and where the people arent ass backwards retarded. Trenton GA was beautiful but the churches ran the town so it was boring and retarded.

You'll find great nature almost anywhere, but I think the west is pretty hard to beat. Colorado, Washington, Oregon, or California. Or if you like republicans you can move to Utah or Scarizona.

I chose to move from Austin to New York because I wanted to live in NYC and because I thought it would be a good long-term job opportunity. My experience was that having a job with a living wage was essential before moving. (First time I moved here it didn't work out.) Secondarily, the long gap between when I arrived and when I started making new friends was kind of a bummer at times.

I'm really lucky and can split time between the city and country now. To be honest, I prefer the country these days.

If I had to do it all over again I'd move to Canada.

Colorado does seem like one of the best options. What are the cities like? I'd love to live in small town hippy dippy but in Florida they're all gentrified by retirees who destroy the towns economies. I'm living in my hometown micanopy at the moment and the income avg has increased a lot but the bustling town center is now just antique shops aka garbage markets. There's not even a grocery store besides processed foods at the gas station

I don't like gainesville either because it's bumper to bumper all day and nothing to walk to while I can walk around micanopy in 45 minutes (around whole town) and if it's after 5pm nothing is open/nothing to do. Where are the oasis' in Colorado?

Also yeah the moving with a living wage is something I'll worry about this time. I moved to GA with just a bowling alley prospect and my GF ended up not being able to work because of prof licensing problems. She can find work pretty easily because she's skilled but I'll need to develop something I can move with. It sucks being a tradeless hippy in babylon t.t

I, too, want to move to CO. We could set up an FoH community in a small town. I know a few people here that are moving there sometime as well.

Catfish noodling in Colorado?! Seriously? I DONT BELIEVE IT! Prairie dog shooting though, god I had this redneck friend that loved that... psycho kiss! WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO KILL CUTE IL PRAIRIE DOGGIES? PS: I heard a myth that Japanese people wanted them as pets and because they are filthy beasts (the prairie dogs) they gave all of the asian ppls SARS!

    PS: FOR ME

Vancouver because I'm going to school here, but here's some reasons why I chose it:

    1. It wasn't Colorado (I wanted to try some place new)
    2. It was Canada and I wanted to see what living in a different country was like.
    3. Beautiful city and I love the weather (Cloudy & light rain a lot with some beautiful sunny does sometimes)
    4. School here was cheaper than anywhere else.
    5. City has a lot of stuff to do.

Now I'm staying here because my girlfriend loves living here. Personally, I would prefer to live somewhere a bit cheaper... Somewhere in Washington State would be perfect for me.

    Main cons for Vancouver are:

    1. INSANE cost of living/doing *ANYTHING*. A sixpack of beer is $10 minimum for even the worst domestic crap.
    2. Driving here sucks because the gas prices are the highest in North America, the streets are narrow, and there's NEVER anywhere to park for less than $10.

Everything else is great though, so if I was richer it would be perfect. (Also, the public transit is amazing.)

We don't noodle here, WE AREN'T HICKS!! But we do catch em with hotdogs!! Also prairie dog hunting is my favorite pastime. They are rabies carriers and they're not cute. They bite and its no joke. However shooting them with high calibers isn't very sportsmanlike and I stick to .22 and .17 HMR or air rifles. Their corpses feed hawks and falcons so it is a noble cause.
