    Best games before 2006

So I was going to get a new computer to run fancy new games like Dragon Age: Elf Sex but cannot, because Obama's socialist plans are destroying the economy. I've instead decided to get some good games that will run on my 1.9ghz AMB Athlon 3000+ and Nvidia 6600 GT 128mb 1 gig ram computer.

Don't worry, I already have Everquest, Everquest II, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy 11 sitting in boxes where they will remain, off of my hard drive. until I abandon my family and MMORPG myself to death, Korea style. Shit I think I have Horizons too, which I played one time, an error that has probably ruined my life in ways I will never fully understand.

SO, I'm looking for dorky games that will run on my crappy-ass computer. It looks like most games that came out 2005 or earlier are ok. Here is what is on my list so far:

    Civ IV
AoE III (will this even run?)
    Planescape Torment
    Fallout I, II, Tactics
    Silent Hunter III
    Neverwinter Nights
    Baldur's Gate II
    Elder Scrolls III Morrowind
    Rome Total War
    Freespace 2
    Master of Orion

I am interested in your opinions about other games I should acquire, and whether any of these games are so shitty I should not even bother. Thanks!

First two Thief games! (There's a really good Thief II mod called Shadow of the Metal Age to out there)

    BF1942 (Desert Combat mod)
    CivIII
    Rome Total War
Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004 one or so)
    Silent Hunter III
Blitzkrieg 1 and 2 (even if 2 got a kissed release)
    GTA III/Vice City
    Age of Empires II
    Morrowind
    Dungeon Siege II
    Dawn of War I
Call of Duty I and II

(X-Com in before Gean can post it)

Not so much a "Best Of" list so much as one with good games just to play for old times sake.
epsxe and playstation roms have saved me from boredom more times than i can count.
Ace Combat II, Warzone 2100 and Lost Treasures of the Deep I loved back then.

So many others I can't think of.....

Good thing to do looking for ROMs is open Mobygames and scan each console for highly rated ones/old favourites as you DL em off ROM Hustler or something else.

Also: if you can get a Jaguar or 3DO emu working without being completely kissed up lemme know, been dying to play AvP and old shitty live action games like Immercinary.

I always liked Heroes 3 (and expansions) for a few games every once in a while.

BF1942 is good even as just the normal one, doesn't have to be that mod beastro posted...that game is good.

BF2 is also very good but I'm not sure what year it came out or if you could handle it.

Is there a consensus on Baldur's Gate I vs. Baldur's Gate II vs. Icewind Dale I vs. Icewind Dale II vs. Neverwinter Nights I vs. Neverwinter Nights II vs. Dungeon Siege II? All these games seem similar and nerds like them but I really just want to pick the one of them that is the most fun...

    I 2nd:

    Morrowind
Worms Armageddon (though mostly better with 2 or more playing)
    X-Com (Apocalypse)

Also a few others that I still enjoy:

Lemmings - DOS game so you need some patches to make it work.

Ultima VII - Looks low-res now, but was the largest/best sandbox game I found before Morrowind. Also needs some patches.

Carmageddon 2 - Race, then quit racing and kill innocent ppl, the AI will figure out which way you like to play and play along with you. Carmageddon Death Race 2000 was ok but really focused less on running over dogs and people

Also, a side entry because I'm sure this would run on a shitty PC:

Braid - If you give it a chance, you'll probably love it. It's a side scroller set in a world where time can flow forward and backwards simultaneously, and you have some control over this. It is one of the best non-MMO games I've played since Fallout 3.

Not as many things to exploit.

    Find DCX, a Brit submod.

It still has shit like working your way into building walls and other exploits... if there's still servers for it.

    X-COM: UFO Defense

One of my favourite games ever~

    Full destructible environments!

I would always name the Soldiers after people in FoH and I would mourn each death. On one campaign Rancar and Polkinn survived from the beginning to the end, it was pretty epic, they each had like 160 kills.

And asides from the tactical part of the game, it had some pretty good mass scale strategy going on.

The game had such good atmosphere too.

Infantry was kissing awesome. So was that flying game SOE put out. Cosmic Rift maybe? So kissing cool. Yeah, it was a real bummer when they made all those pay to play.

Does anyone know of similar games that are still active and fun now?

    Fuuuck Infantry.

I loved the tank with the heavy, fast firing loser that ripped everything up but the stronger tanks.

    Ragnarok/Valhalla (DOS, 1992)

No joke, this very dated looking game is one of the most engrossing of its genre. It is smartly challenging and wickedly exciting.
NASA should use Ragnarok to train their Flight Operators.
I continue to play it to this day.

half life mods natural selection and fire arms. I havn't seen anyone post about fire arms so i'll explain...

You started with a guy and you could choose your gear based on how many selection points you have. so say you want a big bad ass sniper rifle...well you're not going to have enough points for any side arm other than a pistol or any decent armor.

kills gave you xp, but that didn't give you more purchase points, it gave you skills. like steadier aim, faster reload, faster run speed (i think) or maybe just more stamina. Anyway what i loved about this game is some of the guns were incredibly accurate, so if you were able to point your mouse at something roughly one pixel in size, you could seriously grief people. This was even easier with an OP gun called the aug. this is a kissing fully automatic sniper rifle, almost 100% accurate with a scope. it was so OP with two levels of marksmanship you could spawn camp and own the whole other team until you ran out of ammo, then just go back and do it again.

natural selection was still more fun though. playing as a noob with a machine gun, walking through some space corridor waiting for some asshole skulk to pop out at you...l

hohoho it was a fps rip off of starcraft and that is ok with me
